Subject: Bidirectional PIM not working
To: Cisco certification <ccielab_at_groupstudy.com>
Hi Team,
I have the following topology:
228.1.1.1|===R1===R5===SW2===SW4===|228.1.1.1
I'm using PIM SM and BSR and R5 is the RP for all MCAST groups (only
group 228.1.1.1 is defined however)
Before enabling BiDir PIM when I ping 228.1.1.1 from any of the
devices shown above I get replies from both R1 and SW4, so there are
no RPF failures and everything is working as expected. Now I enable
BiDir across the network, including RP, and after that whenever I ping
228.1.1.1 from either R1 or R5 I only get a reply from R1, but not
from SW4, however when I ping 228.1.1.1 from SW2 or SW4 I still get
replies back from both R1 and SW4. I also noticed that just after
enabling BiDir I got the following message from R5:
*Dec 21 04:12:54.903: %PIM-6-INVALID_RP_JOIN: Received (*, 228.1.1.1)
Join from 155.1.58.8 for invalid RP 150.1.5.5
155.1.58.8 is the IP Add of SW2 on the link between SW2 and R5
I deleted group 228.1.1.1 from R1 and when I ping the group from R1 or
R5 I don't get any replies, but when pinging from SW2 or SW4 I still
get the reply from SW4. If I disable BiDir everything works fine
again. The output of show ip mroute on R1 and R5 is the following:
R1:
(*, 228.1.1.1), 00:00:13/00:02:53, RP 150.1.5.5, flags: BCL
Bidir-Upstream: Serial0/0/0.1, RPF nbr 155.1.0.5
Outgoing interface list:
FastEthernet0/0, Forward/Sparse, 00:00:13/00:02:46
Serial0/0/0.1, 228.1.1.1, Bidir-Upstream/Sparse, 00:00:13/00:00:00
R5:
(*, 228.1.1.1), 00:27:01/00:03:15, RP 150.1.5.5, flags: B
Bidir-Upstream: Null, RPF nbr 0.0.0.0
Outgoing interface list:
Serial0/0/0, 155.1.0.1, Forward/Sparse, 00:01:25/00:03:02
FastEthernet0/0, Forward/Sparse, 00:26:57/00:03:15
I really appreciate if someone could provide some help here.
Thanks!
Jorge
