It's been too entertaining to watch the drama unfold. And we HAVE
posted at various times about it, but it was likely in one of the other
myriad of threads with the same essential discussion, lamenting with
woes of the world. :)
It's the same discussions that I have seen off and on for over 10 years
now, so it's nothing new.
The reason people aren't passing is because they aren't as prepared as
they should be for the newer topics. Also the method with which they
were studying wasn't taking into account the format changes (in other
words likely didn't listen, or take seriously what they were being
told). And any time you're under pressure anyway when you encounter
something unexpected or not-going-well, then things begin to unravel.
And in the CCIE lab, you really don't have time for things to unravel.
It's a process. It's about your process. It always has been. Although
everyone (no matter whose students they are) seems to focus on the
configurations. It's NOT a configuration exam. It's an exam that you
happen to perform some configuration in.
Once people start to listen (and truly hear) things like that, and
adjust their mode of thinking, we'll see people passing. I have no
doubt in that. I have four students in class this week who are taking
the lab very shortly. So I'm trying real hard to drill in the concept
of how to think things through so that we'll get some successful results!
The hard part for a lot of people is understanding that failing the CCIE
lab is not necessarily an indication of the candidates ineptitude. It
merely means there was a process failure someplace and the cards all
fell down from there. Analyze, regroup, recover. Or as the Marines
would say, Adapt and Overcome.
This is not a HARDER exam. This is merely a DIFFERENT exam. See it for
what it is and deal with it.
