Subject: Question: ip ospf network point-to-multipoint vs point-to-point
Sent: Oct 18, 2009 2:44 PM
What is the real difference between these two commands during configuration?
I know ip ospf network point-to-multipoint sends to a multicast
address but includes a /32 route while the point-to-point just sends
to a multicast address.
The lab I am working shows the configuration using
point-to-multipoint. The requirements for the question were
* no DRs in the area consisting of vlan 20 and 50
* Unicast packets on vlan 20
* Mulitcast packets on vlan 50
I understand the reasoning for using ip ospf network
point-to-multipoint non-broadcast on the one link, but not ip ospf
network point-to-multipoint when point-to-point will accomplish the
desired result.
