Justin:
It is my experience that most of the students that I work with have this
question.

You have to study for BOTH speed and accuracy. IF you are fast and not
accurate, you will not pass. If you are accurate but cannot perform the
tasks ( especially the core technologies ) without thinking twice, you will
also have a problem.

Taking the time to know the core technologies in depth during your
foundational phases of study will pay off big time when it comes to speed on
the full mock labs and the real lab. By taking time to KNOW and UNDERSTAND
the technologies at this point will allow you to be able to take that
knowledge and apply it on the full labs where you have the technologies
mixed together.

Bryan gave a good example of this with the BGP scenarios.

It sounds like you have a methodology that you are using ( i.e. a strategy )
which is good. Employ that strategy every time you open a lab. It also must
flow like you've done it hundreds of times ( which you probably have). Be
willing to adjust this process as you go along to make it better and more
adapted to your style. There is no "one size fits all" strategy for the lab.

You do not have to answer every section and get all of the points from every
section. You must however be able to be highly lethal with the core
technologies. I recently worked with a fellow who did not even attempt a
security section that was worth only a point or two because he did not want
to take the chance of messing up what he knew was a passing grade ( today he
is a CCIE ).

Your speed will build up with knowing the technologies and being comfortable
with them.

Thanks

Subject: How do you develop speed?
Hello all,
How do you develop the speed needed to finish everything in a lab in
the amount of given? Is simply a matter of being that GOOD at
everything in the lab?
I took a 5 hour graded assessment yesterday, and although I did better
than the average score, I didn't finish and lost points on basic
topics for a variety of reasons. It was a great learning experience as
I sat watching my time count down and started looking for the easy
stuff I knew I could earn points on. Sadly, those were "advanced"
topics and I definitely found my weak areas.
