This is one robust thread. :) I can't speak for others but fear is not the
word I would apply here. It is a deviation from the the previous lab. The
troubleshooting section is new. Regardless of how easy or hard it is. The
MPLS and VPN content (seem to get the most headlines) is new. I know a lot
of folks out there studying for the lab work in hard core R&S environments.
However, a lot of us don't. I'm a security guy. Not even a pure Cisco shop
at that. I've been around the block a few times and have to know a little
R&S just to do my job. I've decided to take that to the next level. For me,
this is a very tough lab and one of the main reasons is that I have to take
my other hats off at night and put on my "Cisco" R&S hat. Based on
conversations I've had offline with folks I am not alone but I am not the
norm. Changes to the lab setup require changes to my focus. "Fear"? No.
"Concern"? Yes. I want this lab to continue to be difficult. I want the
title to hold it's value and I think it will. But I also want to pass the
damn thing! So even though people venting or confessing their concerns to
the GS list is definitely OT and not necessary I can certainly understand
their viewpoints. Keep in mind we have everyone on this thread from
multi-discipline CCIEs to kids with nothing and no experience who've
managed (or not) to pass their written. With this audience we're gonna get
a lot of paranoia.

I can understand the fear. It's called FUD, except that in this case
it's not spread on purpose (in most cases, I presume), rather out if
sincere concern.
Changes between v3.0 and v4.0 are really minimal technology-wise.
Addition of MPLS and few other things should not worry anyone who is
ready for the lab. I think it should not take more than a week or two
to learn those subjects sufficiently.
Troubleshooting on the other hand is a little bit more than a peanut,
but should not be feared. It's just figuring out what's wrong and
fixing it Sort of a thing we do all day at work, isn't it? :-)
