Indeed... it was designed to work in dense mode. So when you use
sparse-dense mode you are saying that things try to run sparse, but can fall
back to dense mode and thus it works. ip pim autorp listener is basically a
"hack" that says "For JUST 224.0.1.39 and 224.0.1.40 run in dense mode...for
everything else run sparse mode". Like I said it was basically a hack Cisco
came up with so that customers could run the Cisco baby protocol while still
maintaining a sparse-mode environment.
