Auto-rp question

Hi group,
i read this when i was configuring auto-rp for multicast

Sparse-Dense Mode for Auto-RP
A prerequisite of Auto-RP is that all interfaces must be configured in
sparse-dense mode using the *ip pim sparse-dense-mode* interface
configuration command

So i noticed the word must in the above sentence, is that true ??
Also it works with ip pim sparse-mode, or this is what i think
