Etherchannel XOR on 3 and 5 ports etherchannel

I have no problem understanding this when using Etherchannel with 2,4 or 8
ports in a bundel. But if you have 5 or 7 ports in the bundel.
Exampel from Cisco.

192.168.10.1 and 172.24.50.6

1 = 00000001 and 6 = 00000110

2 port etherchannel port (0-1) 1XOR0 =1 eq port 1
4 port etherchannel port (0-3) 01XOR10 = 11 eq port 3
8 port etherchannel port (0-7) 001XIR110 = 111 eq port 7

now if you have 5 or 5 porst what happends?
What bits are used?

3 port channel port (0-2)
or
5 port channel port (0-4)

How will this work?
