Cisco implemented 802.1s (Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol) in two
phases/versions. A "pre-standard" version they called MISTP, and a
standard version they now term 802.1s (MST). Here, it appears you are
connecting a pre-standard version IOS to a standard version device.
According to the documentation in the link below: "When you connect
the prestandard MST switch with the standard MST switch, you need to
configure spanning-tree mst pre-standard in the interface of the
standard MST switch"
