Hi Folks,
after two unsuccesfuls R&S lab v3 exams(Advice: You know if you are ready or
not), now I'm preparing the 3rd attempt in order to pass v4 R&S LAB.
Now I'm cutting down the expenses using more dynamips, the problems is
that I'm not able to run 13th devices running with an acceptable performance
even using more than 4 Gb of RAM. I already applied all the performance
improvements like "IOS ghost" and so on. I'm thinking move to LINUX. But any
advice will be really apreciated.
By the other hand, I was using the IE materials for v3 and they are
fantastics, but there's nothing for v4 like mpls or I'm wrong. In addition
of that, I saw at Cisco that the cisco lab assesors tests have been remove
from the web, and replaced for a simulation of the new exam
structure (troubleshooting part and configuring part) taking 9 hours. Do you
know how to buy the v4 assesors at CISCO site?? I saw like bootcamps
with the assesor bundles but says something like contact with a external
trainning company for contract them. Any experience related?
Finally, do you have the link for taking the v4 lab beta exam ?
Many thanks,
RobClav
Robclav,
1. MPLS - Get the old Sybex Book on MPLS Certification for the CCIP - only
costs a mild... $5.00 - $50.00. Of course new offerings will soon appear if
not already. I kinda like this one.
(It works through a varirty of labs in succession and incrementally. It's the
kind of thing you need to see the cause and effect of each configuration
step-by-step and with more complexity as you progress.)
2. The CCIE Lab Accessors are gone for now. The Cisco ASET CCIE Labs are still
alive and kicking. However, to the best of my knowledge you have to be
associated with a Cisco Partner and your SE will have to vouch for you and get
you hooked up.
(In the mean time - there are a total of 4 CCIE Lab Prep - Cisco Press titles
and they are mostly written by the staff who are proctors... need I say more?)
If the wording looks like the CCIE Accessor... it is probably no small wonder.
There is an argument that some of the labs in some of the books is old,
unsuported, etc. However, a creative CCIE Candidate can save a bundle by being
able to spot the issues and overcome the deficiencies that time and change have
had on these great references.
3. Dynamips - I'm not sure if everyone has heard but the emphasis on the CCIE
Lab is not on Cisco Router Hardware, nor is it actually on Cisco IOS Software
Version. It is on the Technology however. With that said, you can safely
practice the majority of your labs and scenarios on 2 or 3 routers and then
gradually build up to several more routers.
A strategy such as this might take this form of understanding that there are
two fundamental operations that routers employ and that the CCIE Lab is
intended to test upon:
1. The link between any two routers and at times maybe 3 routers.
2. The forwarding plane, its decisions and the conditions on which those
decisions are based.
4. There is/was no link to the Cisco Beta Labs.
5. The Official Announcement from Cisco is that the CCIE Version 4.0 Labs shall
commence on October 18th, 2009.
