Try Mock Labs from any vendor and IPX is giving one mock lab free of
charge... I have dell cor2duo 2.0 with 4 GB of ram, my laptop was dying when
i load lab in windows, performance hit was 95-100% only with initial configs
and it was left with no power to do any thing serious.
I have moved to Linux (Ubuntu) and without any tweaks i can load all 14
devices (IE) and running upto OSPF+EIGRP+RIP on all of these and performance
hit is 60 - 70%. Until now have not tried BGP on 14 devices so end result is
not clear. But i hope if i can compile kernel and do some Tweaking i can
bring down the utilization to much lower values.
BTW, i am using 64 bit OS and my laptop by design can access 3.2 GB of total
4.0 GB ram, my all devices are 3725 (which is quite
processing intensive IOS), if i replaced few devices with 29xx devices it
will be much faster. But until now i am satisfied with my experience.
