I haven't failed yet as I still haven't taken the lab. Still, better engineers
than me have shown up and come up short first time. We will just have to see
what happens when I finally go in. Your study program, your priorities in
life, your bandwidth to study is a very personal thing. Find what works for
you in terms of time available to study, priorities, how best you pick things
up and go from there. As for non first time passers with ability. Lots. I
think Karl Solie took three attempts. My friend Peter took five. Scott twice.
These are all very handy people. It's a difficult test so go when you have
given yourself the very best opportunity to prepare in your own way. I see
people doing many hours a day studying and passing first time and that's
great, but that's just not a very practical option for some of us engaged in
the field. Some inspirational stories out there though. Im looking forward to
sending my 'I passed' email in due course. In fact I wrote it in advance and
it's still archived. It continues to be edited as things change like the birth
of my son, but some things remain, like thanking Scott Morris (Blackhawk) who
has been a great friend and mentor over the years.

Sorry to hear about your experience as well. But, as I tell everybody you
need to eliminate the word fail from your vocabulary. You didn't fail, you
only learned that you are not quite ready. Reframe failure to a path towards
success. I once heard that after Edison tried unsuccessfully literally 10,000
times at the lightbulb he was being ridiculed because of his "failure." He
said "I didn't fail, I figured out 10,000 ways to NOT make a lightbult" :)

Good luck, and let me know if I can help you in the future on your road to
success

    Narbik,

Seems like some good advice to me. I have waited this long juggling
evening lab prep with work and young family, seems a shame to rush the last
bit and grab whatever slot shows up.

      Marcus,

Remember this is a long process and NOT a short one, and you should NOT
be
afraid of V3, V4 or even V8, they added some new stuff to the lab, but
they
did not make the lab impossible, i honestly believe that a person that
passes the new version is exposed to more and better stuff than a
person
      that passed the older version.
Take you time and go over the recommendations i gave you guys, my new
2.0
material will be totally completed within the next two weeks, and i
highly
recommend retaking the boot camp again, and remember that consistency
will
pay off, you need to study and create a study plan, attacking each
protocol
separately and you should not let go unless you know that protocol
inside
out. The question is "When would i be ready?" well....when ever you are
able
to answer all of *your *questions.
Let me know if you need any help. Was the class and the work books
relevant? If they were, then, its matter of finding the time to study,
but
your study plan should be a comfortable one, so you wont get bored with
it.
Don't rush, you have what it takes, and you will do it, but when you
are
      ready.

        Erm Joe,

I think you missed the announcement from Cisco about their 90-day
cancellation policy. So unless someone out there paid for the lab but
dont
feel like attending and cancel, it is almost impossible to get a date
        before
the blueprint (or topic, as Cisco now calls it) change...
