So long as you do not violate the stated rules in the lab, everything is in
play.
The lab may expect you to do things a certain way, but the builders are the
first to let you know there is more than one way to accomplish a task.
As William noted, many "other designs" can break your lab in other areas, so
be sure you consider all the impacts.

On another note, just b/c they don't say you can't do something, don't think
that means you must do it.

The only way you will lose points is if the lab does not accomplish what
they want as an end result.
