You are not alone in your expertise level.
The best thing that you can do it utilize the resources on CCO. You can
learn all about the major product lines.

You can also use the many IOS tools (IOS Feature Navigator or IOS Upgrade
advisor are 2 that come to mind ).

Don't let these kinds of things throw you. Look at them as areas to round
out your skill set.

The idea is that you may not have the answer right in your head, you have
the competence to know where to look so that you can make a valid
recommendation.

Of course the more you do this on the job the easier it becomes and pretty
soon you will be spouting off about an undocumented feature ( bug ) in IOS
that you ran across and what you did to work around it.
