This is a good question .
Although you can match exactly the same (and more) with a prefix-list
as with a standard access-list, it seems like the IOS makes a distinction
in some cases.
Here are two examples.
1)
When using a prefix-list under a route-map in a next-hop match it didn't
filter
anything for me whereas it did with a standard access-list matching the
exact
same thing.
2)
In one particular case the ios told me this:
"this command only accepts named standard IP access-lists"
So basically you can use the prefix-list as the access-list in a route-map
to match things, but the IOS will sometimes treat it differently.. at least
that is my experience.
