I paid every single thing for my CCIE on my own dime ... and let me tell
you, when you pass it will all be worth it :) Your company may care about
your success from a business perspective as an investment, but nobody is
really going to care about your success on a personal level except you and
maybe if you are lucky a few close friends, family and mentors. When you
get it, no matter who pays for it, you will have that sense of
accomplishment that nothing else can give you.

And Bobby, let me say this from my own experiences:

My last 2 paid exam ( one failed, one passed ) : both reimbursed by
the company I last work for ... I pay for both initially by my own
hard-earned dough.
Once you passed, there is a lot on the table to choose.

It not a guaranty that my company will do it today, but it is an
investment for the future...
Heck, I should leave the investment out of it ;-))).

  You get my idea.
