Hi GS,

Has any done the UCM6/7.0 to MS Exchange Voice Mail integration already ?

If so , can you please give me your valuable feedback , particularly in
terms of following 5 x areas ?

1) Config side : what are the major other areas you needed to fine tune on
both *UCM*side (besides standard configuration of SIP Trunk config + Route
Pattern + Exchange peer IP & port of 5060 + MRGL , CSS + SIP security
Profile .etc) as well as on the *Exchange* side ( besides defining the Roles
+ Mail Boxes + Permissions/Policies + Dial Plan ..etc) to get the
integration successfully going ? 2 x things one of my friend cautioned me
alreday are the "MTP" requirement as part of MRG as SIP trunk needed it and
secondly lack of proper DTMF handling between UCM & Exchange.

2) Deployment/Designing issues : Which MS Unifield Messaging codec did you
use ( on WMA or GSM or G711 PCM) ? And what BW calculations you have taken
in to consideration ? How many concurrent VM calls ( to leave messages or
retrieving the messages.e) capacity did you go for each server ? And how
many max VM boxes can each Exchange server can house ?

3) Trans coding : Currently I am running G729 across WAN for IP calls and
G711 for local LAN IP calls. And I am running local PVDM2 based Skiny DSP
Farms to run Media resources such as Transcoding , Conf Bridging and MTP
..etc.

And I do not have any Dedicated HW based Transcoder at the HUB site where
UCM & Exchange server farms are locating. Previously I was running CCM Based
SW Media Resources on MoH , Xcoding , MTP ..etc. But I recently realised
that CCM can NOT do SW based Transcoding like some 3rd party apps/boxes
does.

Therefore my Q here is that , do I need to deploy a Transcoder at HUB site
for any incoming G729 IP call user whenever he needs a leave a VM message or
retrieve a VM message across the WAN?

4) Scalability & Performance and Stability of the Exchange platform:

Did you come across any performance issues with Exchange VM platform ?
Interestingly (worryingly as we are deploying shortly) , today , I heard
from one MS's competitors that , in their internal testings on Exchange UM
platform, they have found 20 to 30% calls failure over a 10k VM call
testings. When I heard that number , that is a real concern because , even
though VM app is NOT that critical like IP RTP or signalling traffic/calls ,
it is still user facing app and hence few of my user base will be jumping up
& down if they we keen loosing Voice calls on exchange ?

That is why I am hoping to pick up some tips/guidance here on the "Best
Practices" on Exchange UM side of the things which can prevent me loosing
large number of VM calls.

From UCM7/6.0 though , unlike 4.x platform , there are no CTI ports related
scalability/bottleneck problem as all traffic between UCM7/6.0 and Exchange
VM box is via SIP trunk.

5) How the SIP trunk between UCM7/6.0 and Exchange UM box calculate on
maximum number simultaneous VM calls ? Meaning , just like number of CTI
ports on older version , how & where can we provision this capacity aspects
on the Exchange ?

Thanks heaps..

tony
