High end certifications are the same as college degrees. Sure, having an
Ivy league degree seems better than a public university degree, but at the
same time, if you cannot communicate well to your boss/customer, you can
have as many letters/numbers after your name as you want.

That's why I think the OEQ are a great idea (hopefully for all tracks,
especially when I tackle voice coming up), because that is exactly what you
get in interviews if the person interviewing you is wise.

And to me it is all just a foot in the door, the rest is up to the
individual, which is how it should be. Think about it, if I have two people
in, a CCIE-V with limited experience and a CCVP who has dealt with
Meetingplace, Presence (previously not on the lab, though it will be in
July) and EIM/WIM with IPCCX and that is what I'm deploying, I'm going with
the guy with the experience and knowhow who can tell me the issues that
Cisco sometimes doesn't document.

Same with CCIE in RS with only lab experience and a CCNP who has migrated
from 6500 to Nexus and I am a customer who is wanting to deploy a couple of
5000s.

All this stuff is just a learning experience and proves you can adapt,
learn, and think on your feet. It isn't an end all. It just feels that way
sometime due to the amount of time and energy it takes. :) Just my two
cents.
