I might want to also add that turning off CEF might lessen your chances of passing as MPLS has been included in the upcoming version of the lab.... :)

While I wouldn't personally recommend this just because of potential stability issues (and the risk that you might *introduce* a need for the very troubleshooting you're trying to expedite), just as a general matter of discussion don't forget all that something as easily disabled as CEF can just as easily be re-enabled before punching out for the day (assuming you're not in a blind panic and prone to forgetting!). My own personal view is that some people get WAY too wound up about some of this stuff. I recall prior to my own lab I discussed here my general practice of shutting down all switchports using 'int range' and then enabling them individually as tasks called for their use. You would have thought I committed heresy from some of the responses I got. I was all but assured I would fail the lab on this count alone. I was also assured I would be instantly failed and barred from the lab for saving the initial configs to flash at the start of the day. Well, I can assur!
 e you that shutting all the ports didn't hurt me any. As for saving to flash, I was made sufficiently paranoid about that not to do it but I've since heard from many, many people who did just so (I read about it in their pass announcements to the list, so what does that tell you?).

The lab is stressful enough without overburdening ourselves with non- rules and hearsay. On the other hand, this is most definitely *not* a time for free-styling. The goal should be to earn the number (or the nth IE) when the scripts go walking through our stuff. I wouldn't do anything that would lessen that likelihood and this might be one such case. But on the other hand, the lab is not a china shop and that's worth bearing in mind too, IMHO...
