IMO, waiting a short while sounds like you would be configuring timers.
Timers are most important in traditional STP mode. Remember that the newer
versions or implementations of STP have built in 'smarts' like backbone
fast, uplink fast, etc ... so the timers for these, in once sense, are
already optimized. IMO, when given a scenario as asked to configure a timer
such as you have been given, it is best to leave the switch at the default
older mode of STP and configure the timers per the link below.

As you see, you can configure the timers to meet the 15 seconds forwarding
delay / time.
