Hi,

Kennedy Clark's Cisco LAN Switching is all time favorite, in same class as
Odem, Doyle and Halabi. However as said in previous posts it has to be
updated for IOS switching. I would grab immediately if a revised version of
Clark is released.
In real world, after handling much of 2926,4000,5500,6500 CatOS switches it
was very difficult when 3550s & 4500s were introduced with IOS. Had to rely
heavily on Cisco CD that accompanies the switch.

For my CCIE RS lab prep, I bought Cisco BCMSN Self-study guide 4th Ed (
http://www.ciscopress.com/bookstore/product.asp?isbn=1587052733) and used to
compare it with Clark if I am stuck.

For example,
In Clark pg 166, STP decisions are based on 4 steps

Step 1: Lowest Root BID
Step 2: Lowest Path Cost to Root Bridge
Step 3: Lowest sender BID
Step 4: Lowest port ID

In the BCMSN guide pg 230, STP decisions are based on 5 steps

Step 1: Lowest Root BID
Step 2: Lowest Path Cost to Root Bridge
Step 3: Lowest sender BID
Step 4: Lowest port priority
Step 5: Lowest port ID

These type of changes (updates) are critical and my recommendation is to use
Clark for overall understanding of switching concepts and the later for
current usage.

HTH.
