1. Broadcast technologies, like Ethernet, allow you to send one frame to a
special address (for Ethernet it's ffff.ffff.ffff ) and that frame will be
delivered too everybody in the network. FR does not have than capability,
there is no such special DLCI. Therefore it's NON BROADCAST. But still, more
than two endpoints can be connected together to one network - hence MULTIPLE
ACCESS. Therefore FR is NBMA. So overcome NON-BROADCAST problem, there is a
replication mechanism, where router emulates broadcast, by taking the frame
and sending it to every single DLCI it has configured/knows about on related
interface. If you don't specify the keyword, this emulation is disabled.
2. The only real relation is the default OSPF mode. Otherwise, they should
relate only in your head. E.G. it's possible to use P2M ospf network type on
P2P FR interface, but it's not best practice. Likewise, it's possible to use
P2P ospf network type on Multipoint FR interface, but it's also not the best
practice. What you should really take into consideration, is "BROADCAST"
keyword from point 1, not the P2P or Multipoint interface type. BROADCAST
keyword allows to run all 5 modes, but without it you can run only
NON-BROADCAST modes (i.e. you cannot run OSPF P2P, OSPF P2M, or OSPF
Broadcast netowork types on FR interface with IP MAP without BROADCAST
emulation capabilities)... (ofcourse this is without PPPoFR/MLPPPoFR/MFR)
3. uh... it's a bit late, so maybe that's why i can decrypt RP only to
Rendezvous Point for PIM... So I don't know what do you mean by "RP" in this
case.
Acronym Finder output for RP:
****** RP Realplayer
****** RP Rapid Prototyping
***** RP Rendezvous Point (networking)
***** RP Reference Publication
**** RP Root Port (Cisco)
**** RP Radio Port
**** RP Radio Paging
*** RP Radio Packet
*** RP Rear-screen Projection
*** RP Regional Processor
*** RP Remaining Party
*** RP Release Packet (type of control packet)
** RP Resource Processor
** RP Revertive Pulsing
** RP Renewable Process
* RP Restoration Preemption
But still I cannot relate any of these terms to OSPF and FR.
Or maybe did you mean DR?
