Praveen,

You can change it to a trunk port without having to console to each of them.
Simply copy the configuration changes you want to make to them from tftp.
Do a copy tftp run. This will apply all the changes to the AP. After you
have been disconnected you can then change the switchport to a trunk and
begin pinging the AP. 90-99% of the time this will work for you. For the
other 1-10% you will have to go out and touch the AP's. But again this is a
much better method than having to visit each and everyone.

Just make sure you use the tftp method and not via telnet. I have used this
method on just about every type of network device out there.

If you want to be cautious and make sure you don't lock yourself out do a
scheduled reload on the AP before applying the changes to the running
configuration so that if it locks you out it will reload and you can get
back in and re-attempt the changes.

AP#reload in ?
Delay before reload (mmm or hhh:mm)

AP#reload in

But I have to agree with Tony. Get a wireless controller and save yourself
some hassle.

400 AP's???

The cost savings to maintain and adminster that many AP's with a controller
is many times over the price of that controller.

Subject: Wireless config help

Hi GS,

Need help in wireless configuration, I have 400 AP in my campus LAN, all
are autonomous, no controller.

Right now they are having only one ssid configured in them, but we are
deploying one more ssid.

Procedure which I found in Cisco web site is to configure sub-interfaces
and assigning each ssid to sub-interface.

Question is there any way I can do this without using sub interface or
upgrade them over the LAN or bottom line is I don't want to remove 400
AP from wall and connect console to them and reconfigure them.

Thanks
Praveen
