The 2600xm platform uses PVDM-12 DSPs which uses different configurations
compare to PVDM2 DSPs. It still can be configured for the normal stuffs like
transcoding, MTP, Conference bridges, etc.
2600xm requires NM-HDV which supports maximum of 2 E1/T1 ports per NM module.
A PSTN switch requires a minimum of 3 ports (2 for T1 and 1 for E1).
The PSTN switch
also needs to support CME for connecting to a ephone with various
numbering plans for 911, int'l etc.
Hence, you may need a large flash and memory to run CME.
The cheapest PSTN switch is a Cisco 1760-V router but you need to
comprise one of the E1 port
as R2 digital signaling instead of PRI signaling.
It can be challenging to convert a R&S pod to a Voice pod. One thing
to take note, VWICs and DSPs
can be really expensive.
