In the LAB I would not recommend it.
One of the very first requirements and limitations in the lab:
"Do not create any additional subnets, unless explicitly allowed"

This is in ASET labs at least. So by providing addresses to ping, you'll
break the rule

You can always ping link local addresses on the link.
Or you can check end-to-end connectivity
Or you can check the routing protocol status.
