Hehe. Yeah, I may very well have gotten the last one in Best Buy's
inventory - it was buried pretty deep. But they're still being made.
Googled my brand and part number and sure enough here it is:

http://www.dynexproducts.com/pc-186-4-dynex-4-port-10100-ethernet-hub.aspx

LOL, funny to note that it's "Windows Vista compatible!" Oh my.

I find the BB floor folk are pretty knowledgeable about consumer products,
which is their domain. I surely don't expect much in the way of networking
expertise, even over at the "Geek Squad" desk. I do believe that my young
gent mentioned having been involved in the Networking Academy at some point
in his brief career. I, personally, worked in a Radio Shack my senior year
of high school.

it's been awhile since I've seen a hub in best buy or anywhere else. I have
a few small one's I use for sniffing and other stuff I may be playing around
with at any given time. I usually can find them at those little mom and pop
computer stores on the cheap.

I had a similar experience at best buy about 2 years ago. I asked the guy in
the computer area for a hub and he said he didnt have any, switches were
better. Me being me I asked him what the difference was, he said switches
were "faster" :) I guess that's kinda true, but that's really not what the
"difference is" oh well, I doubt anyone is expecting super knowledge from
the best buy crowd.
