Um...

Better words were never written. However, most people if not every person
I've ever met at a bootcamp would know the difference between a hub and a
switch and not bat an eyelash and that was before the class.

The bottom line is it takes a bit to get the CCIE if one is doing it
fairly. I've known only a couple of people who could or did walk right in
and take it without much immediate preparation and that's only cause they
did things very/extremely thoroughly and simply put were very experienced -
I mean to the point of quoting RFC's and knowing their stuff pretty near
cold. These guys are are very rare. I'd say I've only met two so far. One
is a CCIE and the other is not yet but he's not aimed at it, since he said
he did not need it (he's happily employed).

Now I've met a few guys that worked really really hard to get their CCIE's,
not quite naturals like the two guys above who were born with tattos that
said "Born to Route" on thei foreheads in Hex.
And these guys simply did hard time to EARN theirs. Nothing but respect for
these folks.

And I've known a few, I'm still wondering how they did it. But they did and
I did not so... they got me. I got more work to go... little by little.

Now I've known lots of CCIE's who have simply grown out of it. That is they
get paid more money not to touch the stuff and their superior skills and
business acumen or other skills are needed elsewhere. That's not a bad
thing either for obvious reasons.

None of this bodes well for a newly minted CCIE who has trouble with a what
may or may not be deemed a fair interview. I think what the poster of the
question meant was he gave the guy fair questions, received less than
stellar answers and so he threw the guy a bone. A hub is about as simple as
we can get, unless we conside the cabler or transceiver.

So we may harp on the hub being a fair question or not, but honestly would
be let any Cisco Certfified Professional play who did not know what a hub
does?

Last time I checked even the Cisco Academy covers the hub... even if it is
a dinosaur.
