RE: CCIE True Interview Story

The questions I got showed me they were after a person with both technical
maturity and the knowledge of best practices required to build an enterprise
level network.

Any little idiot with a testking can rattle off ospf timers, network types,
lsa types, packet types, etc.

A real expert can remember all those things, know how they really work, and
be able to troubleshoot and design using the protocols from layer 1 to 7.
That is probably why they asked me to also interpret the output of the show
ip bgp summary & show ip ospf database but did not ask me what are the
default bgp timers, ospf timers on physical frame-relay, etc.

As a CCIE I have all the routing, switching and design experience from years
of find solutions to outages, and building new networks from the ground up.

Those were great answers Pavel, clear, concise and to the point. We both
know you *don't* put ios acls on an msfc in a high bandwidth network and
expect line rate performance, but do you know how MANY CCIE's I have seen
load the msfc with acl's like it's no big deal????? (most)

VSS? Now that's OT :)
It's coming along nicely. Except the service modules of course, but support
for that is coming - 4 new service modules supported soon.
Customers like it.

I don't think Joseph was ask questions pertaining to CCIE-related.. but
questions company would expect a CCIE to know.. and I think most people who
work with 6500 would know what it means while working with multiple images.
I think this is going completely OT now.. we are just trying to learn here..
instead now we are fighting to know who knows best in 6500..

Just out of curiosity though.. have people begun to use the VSS??

Sorry Joseph, but this is not CCIE-related.
One of the Cisco courses I teach is CAT6KS, or "Catalyst 6500 Implementation
for Data Center Buss. Solut." So I could easily answer those questions waken
up at 5am after alcohol-heavy party.

CCIE never teaches you hardware architecture, which the course I mentioned
does.

From my experience, questions asked only represent the knowledge of the
subject pertaining to the questions asked.
If I asked you a question "In the output of "show bootvar" command, what
does the number after IOS image mean? e.g. "c2800nm-advipservicesk9-mz.124-*
8.bin*,2" would you know the answer exactly that instance? And how much
about you would that tell me?
