"last input never"?

OK,
I try to dig thru CCO (like wandering thru an endless forest sometimes)
and google questions before putting them on this thread but this question is
either too simple or just not clear. In troubleshooting an interface
recently that went into err-disable state, I was asked what "last input
never" meant and I honestly wasn't sure. I don't believe based on the other
interfaces that it's related to the issue but it's just something I've
overlooked over the years. Can anyone provide guidance on what "input" is
actually being referenced? Is it referencing the ARPs? No, I don't think
it's associated with the problem but I'm providing the full info anyway. Any
help would be appreciated. Thanks.
