redistribute rip into eigrp

Hello Guys,

I redistributed rip into eigrp using "redistribute rip" but i couldnt see
the routes redistributed until i used "redistribute rip metric 1 1 1 1 1"

If eigrp doesnt not redistribute without a specific metric then why the
command was accepted? Does it do any thing else ?
