I have seen in the Cisco documentation that you can still put the "mpls ip"
on the TE even when not required such as the PE router. I understood this
to me that it can be seen as a precaution for a reconfiguration where it
might be necessary.
So I guess you should put it on the P router in any case to 'be on the safe
side".
