If the Lab does not ask you to manually assign link local IP using a pre-defined format (e.g. FE80::Y) then you can use the auto assigned link local address.
Most routing protocols however require you to have frame-relay mapping for both link local as well as global address. That means, you will have to have reference to the actual link local address in a later stage of your config.
If the lab solution does not fix the link local address, their solution will be something like
int s0/0
frame-relay map ipv6 FE80::C001:8FF:FEFC:0 102 broadcast
This is hard to read, and also varies from one router to others.
That's the reason that the lab solutions tend to fix link local address, eventhough the task may not require it. It is a good prractice for lab enviroment, and in a small network.
