Hi Antonio,

For the first point - it discusses if redundant.

I believe the second point is valid only if the PS are to be combined (that
is: nonredundant).

If you are using redundant mode - both PS must be same wattage (but can be a
mix of AC & DC). In combined mode, the 2 PSs wattage are totaled together.

So, your first solution is allowed if redundant or combined. Your second
solution can only be used if combined (non redundant).

From the a different area of the first post:
Nonredundant to redundant (both power supplies must be of equal wattage)

At least that's the way I'm reading this. Hope this make sense,

Subject: OT: Catalyst 6500 PS Combinations

Hello group,

Sorry for the off-topic.

I'm trying to find the Power Supplies combinations we may have in a Catalyst
6509 running 12.2SXF8.

1) I found a document saying that the PS's must be of the same wattage and
that we can have both AC and DC PS's in the same chassis:

"In systems with redundant power supplies, both power supplies must be of
the same wattage. The Catalyst 6500 series switches allow you to use both
AC-input and DC-input power supplies in the same chassis. For detailed
information on supported power supply configurations, refer to the Catalyst
6500 Series Switch Installation Guide."

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SXF/native
/configuration/guide/pwr_envr.html#wp1020351

2) In the Installation guide, it says that they can be of different wattage:

"Installed power supplies can be of different wattage ratings. Installed
power supplies can also be both AC-input, both DC-input, or one AC-input and
one DC-input. Power supplies can be configured in either redundant or
combined mode."

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/hardware/Chassis_I
nstallation/Cat6500/01over.html#wp1085653

What is the truth here ?

Basically i need to know if these combinations are supported:

2500-DC + 2500-AC

2500-DC + 4000-DC

Thanks.
