Hello:
I think that you can run full dynamips labs on quite a few computers, but
you really need to do your homework with your idlepc value. My personal
opinion is to go quad core and skip the laptop. You can get yourself a
decent quad core machine for about 400.00. There are a lot of things that
decide what your PC idles at - I find that it depends on the lab I am
running. A lot of times, I can kill dynamips, restart it, and it will go
from idling at 80% with IGP, BGP, multicast, etc., configured down to
10-15%. Like I say - try hundreds of idlepc values - you'll find the only
that works best for you and it will be good - the idlepc is more linked to
the IOS you are running than to which PC you have. I can't speak for linux
as I haven't tried it, but dynamips runs fine on XP. I had a few problems
on vista - but I wouldn't say anything is out of possibility. As far as
memory goes, I would say 2GB is sufficient. See my last post for how to
eliminate layer-2 problems. HTH
