If you can provide information about the topology, protocols and
redistribution points those of us without the workbook may be able to
help. Otherwise, as Joe suggested, you could try the IE forum.
At a guess though, since EIGRP external routes have an AD of 170, it is
likely that EIGRP external routes are being received on the router, and
that it is performing mutual redistribution with OSPF.
If you also have another redistribution point between EIGRP and OSPF,
then without this AD change, EIGRP routes could be redistributed into
OSPF by one router, and then redistributed back into EIGRP by the
other. Since OSPF with AD of 110, would be more preferred than EIGRP
external routes having an AD of 170, a router receiving such a route via
OSPF would prefer that to one learned directly from an EIGRP neighbor.
The AD change prevents a routing loop forming between the redistributing
routers.
