I think you have to generate some traffic through the link, then monitor it.
For generating traffic, you can use a linux box and do a ping x.x.x.x -f to
flood the network, or you can use Cisco extended ping.
For monitoring the throughput of interface you can use SNMP, or you can use
"sh int [serial0/0]" to see the outgoing and incoming traffic.
Normally it shows the 5 minutes average traffic, but you can use
"load-interval 30" on the wan interface to provide you the 30 seconds
average throughput.
