Yes unfortunately the OSPF network types were specified. I read this
document here:

Down the page a little they remove the full mesh FR mappings which is like
my scenario, but they get the extra host route to the other spoke. So I
think I know how it's supposed to work, but maybe I am missing something.

Have you tried OSPF network type point-to-multipoint on the spokes, or
is this forbidden?
