Read on another forum, someone mentioned "Pci 4 port USB to Ethernet" have problems running on Dynamips on Windows.
I am thinking to use 3 laptops to replace the Compaq Proliant, can build the lab at home too. 3 laptops can share the full topology load instead of relying on an old compaq server.
Laptops Specs as follows:
1.) IBM T43 <1.86GHZ single processor, 1G RAM> - 2 x USB ports > will buy 2 x single "USB to LAN" instead of "4 USB ports" since the latter has problems on Windows - 1 x external NIC - 1 x onboard NIC = Total 4 NICs
2.) Dell D600 <1.6GHZ Dual processor, 504M RAM> - 4 x USB ports > will buy 4 x single "USB to LAN" instead of "4 USB ports" since the latter has problems on Windows - 1 x external NIC - 1 x onboard NIC = Total 6 NICs
3.) IBM T40 <1.3GHz single processor, 512M RAM> - 1 x external NIC - 1 x onboard NIC = Total 2 NICs
Laptop 1,2 will share R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6 Laptop3 will run BB1, and BB3
Appreciate any kind comments on this setup.
Cheers

My deductions:MINIMUM for a CCIE R&S rack (per IEWB topology) is a Dual Core 2.8Ghz w/ 3Gb RAM. I had cpl of 4-port NICs and found that the I/O for these took alot out of the processor, result: a duo core just couldnt take all the load.I recently bought a quad-core machine and decided to test if dynamips would work after all...dynamips worked almost flawlessly. My config: Intel Quad-core Q6600 2.4Ghz processor, 4Gb dual-channel (2gbx2) corsair ram.In my humble opinion, anything less than a quad-core with atleast 3gb (if not 4gb) is asking for frustration... imagine just when ur d!
one with that grueling redistribution task and got perfect IGP reachability, and BAM! dynamips crashes... it has happened to me, on more than one occasion. Btw, make sure that the USB-to-LAN devices you purchase do not use the same device drivers (That can cause only one to use and function at a time).Dynamips ofcourse works and is a very good way to practice initially... just have to watch the temper when it crashes in the middle of that difficult task.. ;)Piyoush.
