If the lab doesn't specify, you are able to do what you want...

Is it easier to remember (and/or type for testing) an address of
FE80::0210:F83D:8447:Fd9C or FE80::1?

Which is easier to look at in a routing table and know where the route came
from?

While it's not a requirement, it's a time and brain saver!

Subject: Lab 14 - 7.1 & 7.3 (IPv6 Addressing)

Hi all,

I wonder if one of you could clear something up for me.

With IPv6 addressing how do you know if you should form the address using
part of the MAC address (eui-64) or just add the host address of the router
at the end. I know some questions in other labs actually specify to use it
or not.

In question 7.1 to setup the frame-relay link to R6 it doesn't say the
address should be formed using part of the MAC address and they just use
"ipv6 address 2001:54:254:1::6/64" which is fine. Then in question 7.3 they
ask for IPv6 to be configured on VLAN4 and don't specify to use the MAC
address but then if you look at the solution they use "ipv6 address
2001:167:1:4::/64 eui-64". Is there a rule when to use it or not? Does it
matter if the question doesn't actually specify it. It seems to work either
way.

I also have a question when to configure a link-local address as well as a
normal one. I think I read it's good practice to configure them when using
frame-relay. It seems to work if they are included or not so not quite sure
what the purpose of them is. Can anyone tell me?

Thanks,
Mike
