Having spoken personally with the individual responsible for creating the
CCDE on multiple occasions you can expect that that CCDE will be for many
harder than the CCIE..You can read the complete interview I had with him at
my blog: http://6200networks.com/?p=258. He details what your CCDE Lab
experience may consist of (note the use of the word 'may'). If you read it
completely then watch the InformIT interviews at the bottom of the page, you
may also gain some insight into a couple of other exams Cisco is considering
that make the CCDE & CCIE look like a CCNA exam.
Question:
How is Cisco going to make the network industry see the CCDE as equal to the
CCIE? That's the only way management is going to see its benefit and pay
higher wages for people who have the cert.
Answer:
I think the difficulty of the test is going to provide this. In fact, my
guess is, folks will wind up thinking it's harder than the IE. At least
that's what we hope will happen. In fact, I think we're going to have to
backfill the IE at some point, but we have another certification to do
before we can do that work.
This week, I'm told, we had 30 takers, and the average pass rate was about
50%. That's a bit better than we expected, and we might adjust the cut score
in the future, but there's no telling right now. It's hard to tell with this
small of a sample. The process we've used is something management type folks
will also care about--the psychometrics on the written exam have been
incredible--this is probably the most reviewed set of questions we've ever
done.

I failed the beta written by 2 marks. After question 200 I gave up and
became disinterested (maybe that's why I scored as well lol). Anyway I sat
the real deal yesterday and boy was that a bloody tough exam. Pass mark 70
and I got 70. lucky? Damn right I had written it off as a fail. I have
now sat about 8 ccie written exams - this was by far the hardest (or maybe
its just that im getting older).
