Having an additional qualification to aim for may provide additional
motivation and a structure to help with their continuing studies. The
knowledge required for the different CCIEs overlaps to a degree, so the
knowledge picked up in one, while still fresh, helps you attain the next.

I expect that many people go for another CCIE for similar reasons to why
they pursued their first.

If someone spends months or years studying for a CCIE, the learning
curve they have already been though is unlikely to leave them thinking
that they know all there is to know. If any such illusions did persist,
it would be shattered quickly enough when they looked at a new topic on
their next CCIE track in any detail.

Time spent in a particular field is no assurance of quality and
certainly doesn't make someone an expert if it is not well spent. Exams
are a way of indicating the level of knowledge that a person has
achieved, but like any other method they are not a perfect measure.

Paul.
