There will end up being some significant differences in commands and
features supported due to the software differences.
The lab exam is running 12.4 mainline IOS code now. You won't be able to
get that on the 2500 or 4500 series routers.
You can use that equipment for testing out general routing functionality
though, so I woulnd't consider it a complete loss! But I also wouldn't go
out of my way to spend money on it. There are alternatives for live routers
as well as setting up a PC to emulate a variety of routers. Those options
may be better places to spend your hard-earned money!

Hi Scott,
i need your help,i want to build my home lab for CCIE R&S,will you advice
me to go for the 2522 series router(5 routers) and get the 4500 series(4
switches),from your experience,can these devices be use for IE workbook v4
and IPExpert workbook? Can these devices give me enough exposure that is
