Guys,
Thanks for your help.
Infact ESW module does only supports policer inbound. See a note below
from from cisco link on same :
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps2797/products_configura
tion_example09186a00808066b8.shtml
There are few restrictions in the policer configuration in the ESW
modules. They are listed here:
* Policy maps with ACL classification in the egress direction are
not supported and cannot be attached to an interface by using the
service-policy input policy-map-name interface configuration command.
* In a policy map, the class named class-default is not supported.
The switch does not filter traffic based on the policy map defined by
the class class-default policy-map configuration command.
* You can create policy-map and apply only to ingress of the ESW
interfaces. And in the policy-map, only the policer is supported.
Router1#show policy-map
Policy Map FINANCE-POLICY
Class FINANCE-CLASS
set cos 4
Router1(config)#interface fastethernet1/4
Router1(config-if)#service-policy input FINANCE-POLICY
%Error: FastEthernet1/4 Service Policy Configuration
Failed.Only Police Action S
upported
* There is no support for policing at a VLAN or switched virtual
interface (SVI) level.

Hi Subodh,
I implement same scenerio with Dynamips and found same error
%Error: FastEthernet1/8 Service Policy Configuration Failed.Only Police
Action S upported.
Even though I did not use police command in policy-map .
One thing I marked if I changed port to layer 3 port by "no switchport"
it accept the command.Require more investigation !
Thanks
Monica

Hi Subodh ,
As per of my Knowledge Police can apply on Inbound as well as
outbound
Shaping can apply only on
outbound .
Can you re-check are you doing policing rather than shaping ?
Thanks

Hi,
Can we apply service policy as inbound on 3550 switch?
This policy map is setting the ip precedence to 5 for
WEB traffic.
When I applied this on Dynamips (Switch) on inbound at
one of the
Fastethernet port, it said that only police is allowed
inbound.
I am asking this question because same scenario is given
in one of the
CCIE book. However, as far as i have knowledge, we can
not apply any
queueuing mechanism inbound.
Thanks
Subodh
