WCCP...different behavior for "redirect in" between a router

Experts,

I have read the DocCD several times and researched Groupstudy archives
regarding WCCP, but I need your expert knowledge.

Is the behavior for "redirect in" the same for a router and a 3560?

My understanding for the router behavior of WCCP, is that if the users
and web-cache are on the same side of a router's interface (see drawing
below), then the command would be "redirect in".

users ------------\
> -----------E0/0-(R1)-S0/0 ---------Internet
web-cache -----/

Likewise, I am thinking that if you replace the router with a switch,
the command would be the same.

However, my study partner says that for the switch, you can not have the
users and web cache off the same routed port on the switch. He justified
his belief with the link below. I read it as if they can be on the same
ethernet port, but just have to be on different subnets, as the Cisco
link describes. My understanding is that the users and web-cache would
be on different subnets further down the switch fabric on a different
switch, not on the same directly attached subnet, as I believe he is
thinking. He was telling me that the users would be on one port on the
Switch, while the web-cache would be on a different port on the same
switch. While I know this is possible, the original disagreement is
that he thinks the users and web-cache can not reside off the same port
that has "redirect in" configured.

Will someone please shed some light on WCCP on the 3560. I know the
"redirect out" is not supported and that the users and web-cache must be
on different subnets, but can they be on the same port, like they can on
a router?

TIA,

Here's a link to WCCP configuration guidlines for a 3560. Read the
second bullet. The web clients, and application server (cach-engine)
connected to the switch must be a routed port or SVI and must be on
different subnets. Because of these requirements the cach-engine and
client can't be on the same ethernet port. I still have to find where I
read the rediect in is based on the flow of the traffic, I think it
might have been in some IPexpert documentation I have.

Read the whole thread, then click on their Cisco link to see the diagram
and example. The interfaces in the diagram do not match the interfaces
in the configuration. But, when you match up the correct interfaces,
which the groupstudy post acknowledges, you'll see the behavior.

So, I believe if the users and web cache server are both on the same
ethernet interface, then it would be redirect in.
