I can't speak for Sean C, but for as long as I have had a cisco book in my
hands circa 1999 ebay has been mentioned as a good place to obtain used gear
to practice with. And it got very expensive quickly too. Hell it took me a
couple of years of saving to amass a meagre 4 routers. 2503's to do ISDN
were going for nearly 400 pounds when I got mine i.e 800 dollars!
2520 for frame switch were pricey too. I ended up with a four port instead
of the more expensive 8 serial ports. I still use it in my lab.
Dearer still were terminal servers. I think the 2509 plus octal cost nearly
1000 dollars!!
So Scott Morris sent me a cheaper Xyplex from the states in 2002. It took
me days to get it working. I still have the Xyplex as my term server.
Thanks Scott ;)
