Shady,
If all your routers are running ibgp then you can safely
turn off synchronization.By default Cisco routers do not install a
route learnt by ibgp unless they know the same route through IGP. This
is done so that non-bgp speaking routers between ibgp peers do not
drop the packets as they would not know how to handle them. This
command was introduced under the assumption that bgp routers would be
redistributed to igp. No one does that anymore as it puts too much
stress on the IGP as it was not designed to handle over 100,000
routes. It is much easier to run IBGP on the core routers instead.
Routes that are not used show up as unsyncronized in the "show ip bgp"
command.
