RE: ppp problem

Hey Advitar,

Yep, you need to deal with your clocking issues just like you would on HDLC.
PPP, in fact, is one of those "HDLC-like" protocols (it just negotiates a
bunch of stuff in addition to providing a L2 encapsulation). Clocking is
really a L1 issue that must be addressed regardless of what L2 protocol you
happen to be running.

One problem I noticed from your other message was that on R4 you had a
username for R4. On R4 you need R5's credentials and vice versa.

Regards,

Scott

Took the statement ppp authen chap out of R5 config so it now reads

interface Serial0/1
 ip address 132.1.45.5 255.255.255.0
 encapsulation ppp
 ppp chap hostname R5
end

Same issue remains though

Im using a DCE/DTE cable to connect both there serial interfaces Its not
like HDLC I don't need a clock rate right?

Rack1R5(config-if)#do show controller s0/1
Interface Serial0/1
Hardware is Quicc 68360
DTE V.35 clocks stopped.
idb at 0x64200B30, driver data structure at 0x6420824C
WIC interrupt reg = F
SCC Registers:

Interface Serial0/1
Hardware is Quicc 68360
DCE V.35, no clock
idb at 0x6430E670, driver data structure at 0x64315D8C
WIC interrupt reg = F
