I find that in the course of consulting it is necessary to interact with
executive suite at times. The goal of that statement is to always
maintain the air of professionalism as a consultant. We can all hem and
haw about how the clothes don't make the man, but the reality of life is
that perception is reality. Part of being in business is managing the
perceptions of those who sign your purchase orders (E.G. the CIO's of
your clients).

Also, I would not recommend talking to back to a CIO. Its to small of a
world to burn that bridge over a pair of jeans.
