Re: Metrics for Redistribution in EIGRP

Ranjith,
It all depends. It is always a good practice to choose accurate
numbers for metric Values when redistributing a protocol into EIGRP or any
other protocol for that matter. EIGRP and RIP have a default metric of
Infinity for routes being redistributed into them, therefore one would have
to specify the metric during redistribution process. You must also specify
the interface bandwidth with the bandwidth command otherwise EIGRP will
consider the entire bandwidth of the interface for bandwidth calculation.

Stick with the real numbers as much as possible, but, at the same time when
attempting the lab, please do not spend too much time trying to figure out
the values as every second counts, You could even use 1 1 1 1 1 and move on
if the networks being redistributed do not exist anywhere.

By the way, The values of constants(K Value) are 0 or 1, 0 meaning ignore
and 1 meaning consider. But, I got your point!

HTH,
Tarun
