Yes in real life you would need this, in fact I know couple of SP that use
it and are very happy, although you can do almost the same with backhaul SS7
but it is like you can do with a Cisco AS5xxx or other models a Backhaul of
ISDN PRI it is working but less scalable and less featurable.
in real world if you want to scale the all in one solution is not the best
thing, you would want the PGW to handle all your SS7 signaling. also the
management products that are available for the PGW2200 are not there for the
PSTN Gateway.
and in a large scale you would have management problem if you want to do it
all from the Gateway.
